Italian Door Knockers

 In Explorers Log

While in Italy for nearly 6 months, I found it striking the variety of door knockers we constantly came across. We often found ourselves traveling down single person width streets looking for the next unique knocker. Rarely did we come across a duplicate and often their grand size needed a little help showing scale. Sometimes the door knockers were place quite high up – interesting.

During this long sabbatical, proposal and marriage to Kiwe, we had dozens of exploratory experiences. Our hand-held Magellan Explorist GPS enabled us both to travel, un-tethered to our memory of how to get back to wherever it was we were sleeping that night.

This collection spanned the entire country of Italy from top to bottom including Sardegna (Sardinia) and Capri.© Tom McGuire
